What Is A Superbill and How Do I Use It For Therapy?
True Core Health does not take insurance, but we can provide superbills for you to submit to your healthcare insurance provider for potential reimbursement.
Super… what?
We are all about simplifying concepts for you, whether that’s breaking down the nervous system, breath work... or — today’s topic — superbills.
In order to do this, we’re going to go through a few frequently asked questions.
What is a superbill?
A superbill is essentially a detailed receipt with an out-of-network provider (ex: counselor) that the client can then submit to their health insurance. Some insurance policies provide reimbursement, whether partial or full, while others do not.
What is an out-of-network provider?
An out-of-network provider has no contractual obligation with an insurance company and therefore does not have a pre-negotiated rate with them.
Since True Core Health does not take insurance, we are considered an out-of-network provider.
How do I know if my insurance provider will provide reimbursement?
Each insurance company has unique policies. In order to determine your specific insurance company’s policies, you can give them a call to verify your benefits.
To find their number, look at the back of your healthcare insurance card and find the phone number listed next to “Members” or “Member Services”.
What do I ask them?
“What are my out-of-network healthcare benefits for behavioral health in an out-patient setting?”
“Is pre-authorization required?”
If this is required, you will need to ask the representative to start this process.
“Is there a co-payment involved?”
“Do I have to meet a certain deductible before receiving any reimbursement?”
If the answer is yes, “What is my current accumulation for my deductible?”
“Is there coinsurance?”
“How do I submit my superbill?”
“What does timely filing look like for submitting my superbill?”
“How will I receive my reimbursement?”
How do I get a superbill?
Most providers, including True Core Health, provide superbills upon request.
If you’re a client of ours at True Core Health, you can just download your superbill via the SimplePractice portal.
And/or just simply ask via email or at your next appointment.
What happens after I submit my superbill?
Generally, the superbill will be processed within 2 weeks. If you haven’t heard anything yet, call the “Member Services” number on the back of your healthcare insurance card to check on the status of your claim.
If the claim is accepted, money will be issued back to you (not your counselor) or the amount will be applied to your deductible.
i know — that was quite a lot of information. let us know in the comments below if you have any questions. we’re here to help!
