We are hosting two Restorative Retreats at Ranchlands’ Zapata Ranch in 2024. Our Spring Retreat is 6 full days while our Fall Retreat is 3 full days. Both retreats include horseback riding, incredible food, a private room and bath, guided restorative sessions with Amy, and a portrait gallery from professional photographer, EB. Reconnect

This remote destination and guided retreat experience offers an opportunity to shift out of your normal day-to-day and reconnect with yourself in one of the most incredible landscapes North America has to offer. If you find yourself craving a break, wanting to be outside more and better yet, outside with horses—this is your moment. We’ll hit all the highlights that Ranchlands has to offer, including a horseback ride through the Dunes and sunset soaked dinners.

Choosing between the Spring & Fall Retreat

The most significant differences between the two are the length of stay and price.
Both retreats will sell out, so do not delay in securing your spot!

Spring Retreat

The Spring Retreat’s full week will be an incredible way to fully immerse yourself in the ranch. This itinerary will have more time in the saddle and more dedicated rest throughout your stay. The Spring Retreat is best suited for those with active lifestyles as the riding fatigue will be a higher load during the weeklong stay. Rest and rejuvenation will play a key in balancing exertion and enjoyment. We’ve created this new offering as our primary feedback has consistently been a desire for “even more time” - to rest, to ride, to just be at the ranch exploring connection.

Fall Retreat

The Fall Retreat is well suited for those with more limited availability to set aside for a personal retreat. This is the perfect way to gain access to the Restorative Retreat experience in a big way. This timeline has been our most frequent retreat offering in the past, so the itinerary will be incredibly dialed in, hitting all the highlights.

Every retreat includes

One-of-a-kind Ranchlands experience complete with multi-course breakfasts and dinners, packed and personalized lunches, private accommodations, and absurdly beautiful riding expeditions with a resident Wrangler. Rides will take place at the Zapata, Medano and the Great Sand Dunes. Your Ranchlands experience will be set apart with guided Restorative teachings by Amy Morrison, and you’ll return home with a photo gallery by Amy’s co-lead, EB Combs. The Spring Retreat also includes a 60 Minute Massage.

A note from eb & Amy—
“When we’re here, we’re good.”

We heard this shared during our first morning ever at Zapata, and it rings true each time we’re back. Being at Zapata was the medicine we needed during a very challenging year. We left the Ranch renewed, energized, and more horse-crazy than ever.

The Ranchlands Restorative Retreat was created to up-level the already inherently restorative environment of Zapata with intention and guidance.
We can’t wait to share that with you.

FAQ

Lodging Details
Each stay includes a private room and bathroom. Four rooms are located a short stroll away from the Lodge at the Stewart House, where we will be staying. The other 10 rooms are located at the Lodge and Main House. The Stewart house is a bit more rustic and requires a short walk, thus the lower rate. Coming with a friend or family member? You have the option to opt to share your space with them, or you can each have your own room. Bunking with another attendee will not affect the price of the retreat.

Is the retreat only for women?
As of 2024, the Restorative Retreats at Zapata will exclusively be offered to women-identifying individuals only. We all participate in a good amount of intimate session as a group, so creating a safe space for all individuals is top of mind.

Come for the horses, Stay for the Food
We’ve never ever eaten better on a trip. The menu features a large amount of locally sourced ingredients and meals are prepared on site. Lunches are selected at dinner via a paper slip. You’ll receive a packed lunch at breakfast to take with you on your ride.

What if I have specific dietary restrictions or allergies?
If you have restrictions and/or allergies, just let the team know prior to arrival as these can be accommodated. You’ll receive a pre-arrival questionnaire to note dietary restrictions or allergies.

What should I wear/pack/bring?
We are suckers for a good packing list. Once you’re booked, we’ll email our curated packing list directly to you.

What is the riding vibe and pace?
We’ll have multiple groups of about four riders, each with their own wrangler. Groups will be selected based on preferred pace and vibe so each groups’ riding experience can be customized. We expect some groups to be chill and laid backed, while others might want to prioritize galloping across fields and dunes. Nose-to-tail riding will take place on some trails in the National Park, but is otherwise rare at Ranchlands as you’re invited to spread out and enjoy a more flexible riding experience. Basic riding etiquette such as staying behind your wrangler and turning to them after passing through a gate is required.

Best recommendations for transportation
If you’re flying into Colorado, you can fly into Alamosa via a connecting flight in Denver. You can pre-arrange a pickup option directly (purchased separately) with Ranchlands staff and avoid the hassle of a rental car. Alternatively, you can fly into Denver or Colorado Springs, rent a car, and enjoy a scenic drive to Zapata. The drive time from DEN is about 4 hours, while the drive time from COS is about 2 hours and 45 minutes. Check-in is as early as 2pm.

Is the Restorative portion religious or spiritually related?
The restorative portion is science-forward as it highlights how our nervous system interacts with stress and offers guidance on how to better regulate. As a licensed therapist and XPT Coach, Amy is keen on helping others connect with their physical bodies through challenging seasons and events.

What does gratuity look like for the retreat?
Guests can add a tip for Ranchlands staff during checkout. Tips are shared among their whole staff—including wranglers and the kitchen. Gratuity is at your discretion. Cards and cash are both accepted. Tipping your retreat hosts, EB & Amy, would be separate and is also wholly at your discretion—venmo & cash accepted.

What is the cancellation policy?
If a confirmed booking is canceled more than 60 days in advance to the retreat start date and we are able to fill the spot, 90% of your retreat payment is refundable. If a confirmed booking is canceled within 30 days of arrival date, 100% of the retreat payment is forfeited and is non-refundable, the only exception being if your spot is able to be filled, in which case 90% of your retreat payment would be refunded. Travel insurance is recommended in order to protect yourself from unforeseen circumstances that may interfere with your retreat stay.

Can I switch retreats after booking?
Due to limited availability and a number of moving logistics behind the scenes, we are unable to offer the ability to reschedule between the two retreats so we ask that you confirm dates and your own availability before booking either retreat.

Are payment plans available?
Yes, payment plans are available at each purchase page. The second payment will be processed 60 days before the first date of the retreat.

Is 2024 the last year for Restorative Retreats?
As many of you know, Zapata’s last guest season will be 2024. It is bittersweet to say the least and we hold so much gratitude that we are able to host two retreats during their final year. This means it will be extra special on a number of levels. And, our wheels will be turning on what 2025 will look like for Restorative Retreats as we have come alive in the creation and facilitation of these incredible experiences. We have quite an array of hopes and dreams for where we’ll go next. Stay tuned!
